CONNECTICUT COALITION AGAINST MILLSTONE

"I don't think the government really wants us to know the facts." - Christie Brinkley

A major Energy Bill now before Congress contains a clause that could force taxpayers to underwrite construction of an unknown number of new nuclear power plants. This provision is potentially a blank check that could use tens of billions of your tax dollars to burden our nation with yet more indefensible radioactive terror targets and their waste. Please help us remove this clause from the pending Energy Bill, so our money can instead fund the renewable and efficiency technologies that can solve global warming, guarantee a secure economy and create millions of jobs. Activists Urge No Delays For Cooling Towers The Day 9/21/2007

INSANITY!

Six years after the calamity of September 11, 2001, U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, is still supporting Dominion's refusal to accept a barrier to protect its vital intakes which the U.S. Department of Homeland Security urged be installed at Millstone wihtout delay at Millstone at taxpayer expense shortly after 9/11.
If the direction of the speedboat pictured here were reversed, nothing would stop it from initiating a nuclear meltdown which would dwarf the Chernobyl environmental and human disaster of 1986 in death, devastation and anarchy.

Millstone Security Guard Arrested
Charged with Reckless Endangerment and Engaging Police in High-Speed Chase

A 29-year-old security guard at the Millstone Nuclear Power Station led police on a high-speed chase - at speeds ranging from 120 to 130 miles per hour - before the police suspended the pursuit on I-395 due to concerns for public safety. Long Island Soundkeeper Terry Backer will join environmental activist Nancy Burton at a press conference on March 19, 2007 at 9 AM in front of the Hartford Superior Court (95 Washington Street) to call for converting the Millstone Nuclear Power Station to a fish-friendly cooling system.
A court hearing is scheduled for 9:30 AM on March 19, 2007 on Burton’s application for a temporary injunction to put Millstone in cold shutdown during the impending annual fish larvae migration. The microscopic larvae are swept by the billions into the Millstone cooling water intakes and destroyed.
As Long Island Soundkeeper, Backer has spearheaded federal litigation to convert power plants to closed cooling systems.
“Once-through cooling - what is used at Millstone - is equivalent to a fish-killing machine and it needs to stop,” said Backer. Visit Green Nuclear Butterfly Blog and respond>>>

Rep. Betsy Ritter: Whose Side Are You On?

Rep. Elizabeth ("Betsy") Ritter, whose district includes Waterford, invited her fellow members of the state legislature's Energy & Technology Committee to visit Millstone's above-ground high-level nuclear waste storage facility. Why she did so is not clear from the Committee's minutes. Rep. Ritter should be proposing legislation to disallow above-ground storage of high-level nuclear waste in Connecticut unless it is proven safe from acts of terrorism. Millstone is storing enough high-level nuclear waste above-ground to dwarf the effects of Chernobyl should its security be breached. The legislative clock is ticking, Betsy: Stop being a Millstone booster and do your job for the people!
